LWE Peer Helper students are back in action on their Peer Helper retreat. This group of students was selected by their peers as students who are helpful to others. Today begins their first day of training.

This week in Introduction to Criminal Justice, students are holding their third and final trial. Students are putting their knowledge of the criminal justice system, criminal court procedures, and police work into practice. Throughout the course, students have had the opportunity to play lawyers, witnesses, detectives, the judge, and serve on a jury. In this trial, faculty from around the building have played the role of some witnesses to allow student lawyers the opportunity to practice preparing and questioning adverse witnesses.
Lincoln-Way East Key Club students went to Smith Crossing Senior Living to pair up with residents in a bean bag tournament. It has been since the fall of 2019 that we could do this due to covid. The residents and students were very excited to get together again.
The top four finishers were Brianna Barranca with her partner Loraine (1st place) and Jack Cosich with his partner John (2nd Place).
Congrats to Mr. Taylor’s Microsoft Office Applications student Ishaan Patel who earned his Microsoft Office Specialist certifications in PowerPoint, Excel and Word. He has proven his skills at an industry expert-level and earned a globally recognized credential and earned the special Microsoft Associate certificate for passing three exams. Way to go!
Spanish Honors Society tutoring sessions were jam packed with eager students practicing for their Spanish speaking final! We are so proud of how many students came in, and we wish everyone luck on their upcoming finals!
Congratulations to Cadet Justin McGee for his selection to the 2023 AFJROTC Flight Academy! This highly competitive program selects strong candidates to attend an 8-week private pilot training program next summer. The scholarship (valued at ~ $24,000) will pay for round-trip airfare, room and board, collegiate academics, and flight hours required to potentially earn a Private Pilot’s Certificate (PPC) through an in-residence collegiate program.

Forensic Science students attended a presentation on how to solve trucking accident cases. Attorney Joel Groenwold of Kopka Pinkus & Dolin Law described how he presents evidence while defending trucking companies in accident cases involving significant damage and loss of life. He has tried over 70 cases in jury trials over the past 22 years.
