Lincoln-Way East

The Regional Bridge Building contest was held Tuesday, January 31^st at Illinois Institute of Technology.  There were just over 40 bridges from over 20 schools entered in the contest.  The contest was broken into three regions, South Suburbs, North Suburbs and the City of Chicago.  In the South Suburbs Region, Lincoln-Way East took 1^st, 3^rd, 4^th and 7th.  Lincoln-Way District Schools had 7 of the top 10 spots.  Lincoln-Way East students Jack Hughes, Leo Grunert, Nick Porada, and Caden Genet Finished 1^st, 3^rd, 4^th, and 7^th place respectfully.  Jack Hughes bridge won the contest with an efficiency of 2250.  His bridge had a mass around 22 grams (about the mass of 4 nickels) and held 45 kg (about 100 pounds).  The winning bridge is determined by efficiency. The equation for efficiency is the mass held divided by the mass of the bridge. Efficiency states that the bridge held 2250 times its own mass.  Jack also had the highest efficiency in all three regions.  Jack Hughes is now eligible to represent Lincoln-Way East at the International Bridge Building Contest.  The International Contest will be held at Illinois Institute of Technology on April 29^th.
