Lincoln-Way East and Central SkillsUSA are in Full Career Exploration Mode this semester. On Sept 22nd both groups visited with construction workers who are rebuilding the Dresden Island Lock and Dam project in Channahon, IL. The presentation was provided by River Works Discovery, https://www.riverworksdiscovery.org , a consortium of maritime shipping and logistical industries that serve to educate and provide career information to students.
On September 22nd SkillsUSA students toured the Operators 150 Training Facility in Wilmington, IL. https://www.asiplocal150.org. Students learned about their 4 apprenticeship programs, how to apply and received tips to make your application into the trades better. Students were able to try their skills on several virtual training machines while there.
On September 27th East SkillsUSA students took an after-school career trip to Ozinga Headquarters in Mokena, IL. https://ozinga.com . Students received an up-close look at the entire Redi Mix plant. Multiple job opportunities abound. With Ozinga serving its customers in multiple midwestern states and Florida, Mokena is home to the corporate headquarters.

This month, SkillsUSA Students will be taking career building trips to the Pipefitters 597 Training Facility in Mokena, Sturdi Iron Inc. in Frankfort, and Illinois Tool Works also in Frankfort.
