Environmental Action Club (EAC) volunteered with Cook County Forest Preserve District at Orland Grasslands to harvest seeds in their native prairie to continue their restoration efforts. It was a beautiful day with 20 students showing up to volunteer.

Tutoring was bustling today with a ton of students from Spanish 1 and 2 looking to practice their Spanish skills! The tutors are all members of the Spanish Honors Society, and we offer our tutoring services every Wednesday before and after school in room 214. Tutoring is open to any student of any level who is looking for help with anything from vocab, to our 4 skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking. #goeastgogriffinsgoblue

This year’s fall play "Our Town!" directed by Mrs. Reusz and student director Nate Borgens, is coming to LWE this Friday November 17th and Saturday November 18th at 7pm and Sunday November 19th at 2pm. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. “Our Town” follows the story of the citizens of Grovers Corner, MA. Discussing themes of family, inequality, mental health, and community; “Our Town” is the perfect allegory for small town life.”

Spanish 2 teachers Mrs. Poulos and Mrs. Seidel led their classes to conduct a speaking test via Teams Assignments. The students found a quiet spot in the library to record their presentation. They uploaded their videos via Stream, a Microsoft video application. Both teachers will be able to assess their videos via Teams. Their students took on the task with great confidence!

LWE had a great time hosting 28 teams of freshmen, sophomores, & other 1st-year players for the IHSSBCA Novice Tournament! LWE A-Team went 8-0 through prelims & playoffs to land a spot in the Championship Game. The team finished in 2nd Place in a game against Francis W. Parker.

Congratulations to students Sierra Chojancki, Clare Hansen, Paige Jahovic, Lesley Menchaca-Camarillo, and Isabel Vasquez for having their artwork chosen for the 2023 JJC Area High School Art Exhibition. Their artwork will be on display at the Laura Sprague Art Gallery located in Building J at Joliet Junior College from Nov 6 -- Dec 8. The JJC Area High School Art Exhibition is a collection of the top student artwork from over 20 high schools in the JJC area.

LWE's SADD leaders introduced our guest speakers from Compass Behavioral Health to our students today. The speakers discussed information on the topic of teen substance use and trends. Students learned skills to navigate scenarios and difficult conversations, how to create healthy boundaries, coping skills and how to access support. #goeast
